Story

I bet you’re wondering what Gossip Girl is doing up so early. Truth is I never went to bed. Why waste precious time dreaming when waking life is so much better.

The hotel kitchen is abuzz with preparations Bart Bass’ annual brunch for his foundation.

Breakfast is brunch and it comes with champagne, a dress code, and hundreds of our closest friends.

But over in Brooklyn at the Humphrey apartment, Dan checks on Jenny who just barely escaped Chuck Bass’ paws. Jenny confronts Dan about the awful wave he gave to Serena the night before when they dropped her off after the Kiss on the Lips party.

In Eric’s hospital room, Serena tries to rationalize about Dan’s wave. She thinks he must hate her but Eric wouldn’t believe it. She likes him and thinks he’s smart, funny, and nice.

10 am, at Blair’s apartment, Kati and Isabel enjoy being pampered by her house help. She calls Nate who’s still in last night’s clothes to wake him up and remind him about the Sunday brunch. Nate gets up from Chuck’s couch at his suite in The Palace. Chuck’s in bed with two hotel staff.

Dan and Jenny get ready to go out. Dan’s going to try to ask out Serena again but he misses her just as she heads to Blair’s apartment to apologize. This leads to an awkward situation at The Palace lobby where both Dan and Nate wait for Serena to get back.

In Blair’s apartment, Serena tries hard to make friends with Blair. Blair admits that she now knows about her betrayal with Nate and there’s nothing Serena can do to fix it. After she leaves, Jenny comes to Blair’s apartment to return her calligraphy pens and to ask what Chuck has been telling people about her.

Lily heads to a Brooklyn coffee shop to ask Rufus to keep an eye on Dan. Rufus mindlessly flirts with Lily and even remembers that she orders Americano with two shots. She’s worried about Serena but Rufus thinks Dan may just be the kind of guy Serena needs.

Back at The Palace Hotel, Dan and Nate try to get out of each other why they need to talk to Serena. Chuck comes out and wants to fistfight Dan but Nate pushes him back and that he’s not worth it.

In Blair’s apartment, Jenny gratefully accepts Blair’s offer of a dress and a way in to the IT crowd.

Lily coerces Serena to attend the brunch, so she agrees to go if only with Dan. It’s quite uncomfortable at the Sunday brunch. Blair’s unhappy that Serena’s there and Chuck’s unhappy about Dan. Chuck offers his room key to Blair so she could take Nate. Just a few minutes earlier, Nate had handed his key to Serena so they could talk. Awkwardly enough, Serena’s already waiting in the room when Blair and Nate come in. Blair leaves the two to tell Dan about Nate and Serena’s betrayal.

Dan had just come back into the brunch room after looking for Serena outside. He inadvertently overhears Lily demanding Bart to keep away from other women. Lily asks him not to tell Serena. Then Blair introduces herself to Dan as Serena’s friend. Nate and Serena had already followed and Chuck joins in the group confrontation. Chuck indirectly tells Dan that Serena had slept with her best friend’s boyfriend and that he and Jenny have unfinished business. Dan can’t hold in his anger any longer and pushes Chuck against some tables and leaves the room. He wouldn’t take Serena with her but she follows him outside. She’s trying to change and she hopes he’d accept her.

In the Humphrey apartment, Dan nurses a broken heart and concedes that Serena, her world, her family, wasn’t for him.
In Blair’s bedroom, Nate holds Blair.
Serena walks the New York streets mulling over cellphone pictures of Blair, Serena, Nate, and Chuck having fun. She finally throws the cellphone into a trash bin.
